He recently shared the backstory of his character’s miraculous life-saving twist in a red-carpet interview at the Daytime Emmys with Daytime Confidential.

Fans Were Filled With Fear Their Fave Would Face A Grim Fate-And So Was Scott!

The soap opera community was indeed in an uproar regarding Liam’s diagnosis when it appeared he might actually confront a dire outcome, losing his life to an incurable disease.

Initially, numerous fans were anxious that Liam was genuinely on the path to an untimely demise, filled with fear over their fave’s grim fate.

Not surprisingly, Scott Clifton shared that same concern when he learned that this storyline would indeed mark Liam’s “swan song.”

B&B Executive Producer and Head Writer Bradley Bell summoned Liam to his office to inform him of his intention to write Liam out of the show.

This was intended to be a genuine death, not a mere fake-out like the show had previously executed with Eric Forrester (John McCook) and various other characters throughout the years.

Scott Talks About His Fear Over Losing His Job

Scott shared, “I felt scared as well;  I was meant to be leaving, that was the strategy… It wasn’t some kind of grand deception aimed at the audience,” Clifton affirmed.

Clifton continued by mentioning that since he believed Liam was truly facing a life-threatening brain tumor, that’s how he approached those earlier scenes.

It provided Clifton with substantial material, and he feels grateful for those impactful scenes and the opportunity to keep his job in the end.

While Clifton couldn’t definitively say what led Bell to change his mind, he implied that the viewers’ reactions and support might have played a role. Clifton expressed his appreciation to the fans as he recognized their part in saving his job.

“I’m not sure what led to that, but I have to believe it’s connected to all of you. And I’m incredibly thankful that you’ve allowed me to stay because it’s truly the greatest honor of my life to entertain you,” Clifton expressed.

Ultimately, it was uncovered that Grace Buckingham (Cassandra Creech) had fabricated Liam’s brain tumor diagnosis as part of an elaborate plot.

Grace deceived Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) out of $1 million through a fraudulent procedure, but fortunately, she was caught.
